Tim Irland

Dr Tim Ireland is a UK registered architect and senior lecturer at the Leicester School of Architecture. Awarded an EPSRC research grant in 2008 he completed his Ph.D. in Archtecture and Computational Design at the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, University College London. His research is a synthesis of algorithmic and biological design thinking applied to the conception of architectural space. He argues that ‘human-space’ may be comprehended by extending the problem downwards to the pattern recognition and control processes of simpler organisms, on the premise that the mechanisms we see at play in single celled organisms lead to higher and higher degrees of sign processing in human beings.
